Ready for Þe Búkk 2?
|
Three years ago Þe Búkk was made. It was a small book with the works of 25 graphic designers, most of them from Iceland. It was hand-made in 100 copies and all of them are now sold and spread around the world.
The following year I set out to start on Þe Búkk 2, and while I did start and some people kindly sent me their material for Þe Búkk, it never really took off. So now it's time to make up for that.
|
Since it's been three years, I've decided to start over with Þe Búkk 2. New size, new rules (well a few old ones from Þe Búkk) and new fun.
If you want to know a bit about the first Búkk, click here.

Þe Rules
|
Þe Búkk currently holds the works of 25 people, some having a page, while others have four pages.
The given guideline was simple. The page had to be A6, black and white and if you used a font, you had to use Helvetica. Everything else was up the each person making the page.
|
1. Everyone gets one spread (Two pages, each 200x250mm, a total of 400x250mm).
2. What you send in must be originally made for Þe Búkk 2. Don't recycle.
3. No colors, only black and white.
4. If you want to write any text on your spred, you must use Helvetica (any version).
5. And the most important rule is the theme you should base your image on:
Your inner nerdism
Read more about it in question 10 at the bottom.

Þe Technical Stuff
|
To make my life easier, when it comes to putting it together, there are a couple of technical things for you to consider.
|
1. Your spread must be handed in as a PDF, with cropmarks, ready to print. If you don't know how to do this ... well, you should know how!
2. Those who participate will get an access to a FTP server to upload your files onto, if they're to big for the good ol' email.
3. Please don't put your name or information on your spread (unless it's a part of the image). There will be an index with your information.

Do you have questions?
Check if I have answers to them here. If not, send me an email and I'll answer it.
|
1. How much does is cost to participate?
A. It's free. But on the other hand, if you want a copy of the final Búkk, you need to buy it.
2. How will it be printed?
A. It will be printed (and sold through) the site Blurb.com
3. Will it be sold anywhere?
A. It will be sold on Blurb.com and hopefully in other places. We'll see how good your stuff is, if it's sellable. ;)
4. Are you trying to get rich and famous?
A. Yes. But not through this project. I'm doing this one for the same reasons as the first one, because I want to and it's fun. I'm not selling the final Búkk at a profit, only to cover my expenses (which aren't many). And if there is a small profit, it will go into the next project (Þe Búkk 3 or something wonderful).
5. Will you accept anyone for the project?
A. Short answer is yes. But in the long answer I'll also tell you that I will not publish anything that I'll think will be offensive, too rude or such. Also, if something amazing happens and I'll get way to many people wanting to be a part of this, I might have to stop accepting people to the project. But hopefully anyone who wants to can be a part of this fun project.
|
6. How much will Þe Búkk 2 cost?
A. It depends on how many people send in their work. The more people, the bigger Þe Búkk 2, the pricier.
7. What about the legal stuff?
A. This is all done for fun, so there is no legal stuff. Nothing for you to sign. But the images you send will be yours, and mentioned so in Þe Búkk 2. I won't have permission to re-publish it, sell it or anything like that. Promise.
8. Why is it only in black and white?
A. Because that's the theme of all Þe Búkks. And that means no gray-scale either (if you need different hues, figure it out ... you're a designer).
9. This theme, how important is it?
A. Pretty important. It's what ties the whole book and all of you in it together. And it's also something to help you get started. :)
10. What is "My inner nerdism"?
A. Everyone is a nerd about something. Something you're so wildly passionate about, that it means the world to you. Something you obsess about. Something you keep wanting to know more about. Something that defines you, even if you don't want it to. That's your inner nerdism.
